First Light, Ability Support
About First Light

An ability-support team
you can actually feel.

First Light was founded on a simple belief: NDIS support should feel less like a service you receive, and more like a team you know.

Our story

Small on purpose. Precise by design.

We began the way most good things do, after too many stories about supports that were promised, then rostered away. We wanted a different rhythm. So we built a team small enough to know every person we work with, and rigorous enough to hold the clinical, coordination and daily-living work together as one.

Today, First Light spans six South-East Queensland regions. We remain proudly boutique: registered, resourced, and unwilling to grow past the point where our care stops feeling personal.

What we believe

Four values we return to.

01

Person-first, always

Plans are shaped around one human being at a time. Templates belong in filing cabinets, not in care.

02

Warmth as a discipline

We treat kindness like we treat clinical work, trainable, measurable, honoured every shift.

03

Craft, quietly

The invisible work, the report that lands, the shift that starts on time, is where the real quality lives.

04

Choice and control

We hold the map; you decide the direction. Consent isn't a form we tick, it's the operating system.

The team

Small circle. Deep bench.

Our support workers, coordinators and allied health professionals share one care record and one weekly stand-up. That means less handover, better clinical decisions, and no one asking you to explain your plan for the fourth time.

Manuela, Lead Support Coordinator

Twelve years across social work, disability and mental health. Manuela leads plan implementation, provider matching and complex-needs coordination. Fluent in NDIA-speak so you don't have to be.

05 questions

How did First Light start?

We began after too many stories about NDIS supports that were promised then rostered away. We wanted a different rhythm, so we built a team small enough to know every person we work with and rigorous enough to hold clinical, coordination and daily-living work together as one.

How big is the team, and is that on purpose?

Deliberately small. We stay boutique because our model depends on every worker sharing one care record, one weekly stand-up, and one care philosophy. Scaling past that point is where most providers stop feeling personal.

What does "warmth as a discipline" mean in practice?

It means kindness is treated the way we treat clinical work: trained, supervised, and expected on every shift. We hire for it, we coach it, and we measure it through participant feedback and coordinator reviews.

Who owns and leads First Light?

First Light is independently owned and locally run out of South-East Queensland. Our leadership team blends clinical, coordination and lived-experience backgrounds, and holds the standards you would expect from a Registered NDIS Provider.

How do you decide who joins your team?

Every worker holds a current NDIS Worker Screening Check, sector-relevant qualifications, and passes a values interview before a shift interview. Trial shifts are always with a lead worker, never solo.
