Supported Independent Living

The right support at home, while you stay in control.

Supported Independent Living, or SIL, is the help you get at home with everyday activities. Getting up, cooking, cleaning, medication, getting ready for the day, and support overnight if you need it. How much support you get is up to you and your needs. The goal is always to help you do more for yourself over time.

  • 01

People who need help at home most days, including overnight

  • 02

People living alone or with housemates who need daily support

  • 03

People leaving home, hospital or care and wanting to live more independently

Our approach

A three-step rhythm
we live by.

Every engagement follows the same beat: understand you first, deliver next, then keep it honest as your goals evolve.

  1. 01

    Understand

We spend time learning your day. What you want help with, and what you want to keep doing yourself.

  2. 02

    Build the roster

We set the hours and the workers around your life, and introduce you before a shift starts.

  3. 03

    Grow

We review the support regularly and step back where you are ready to take over.

  • 01

Help with daily activities at home — morning and evening routines

  • 02

Meals, cooking, cleaning and looking after the home

  • 03

Personal care support, delivered with privacy and respect

  • 04

Overnight and active-night support where it is funded

  • 05

Skill building so you can do more on your own, and regular reviews of your hours

Common questions

The things people
ask us.

03 questions
  • Is SIL the same as SDA?

No. SIL is the support you receive at home. SDA is the home itself — a specially built or changed dwelling. Some people have both, some only have one. We can explain which you have in your plan.

  • Do I have to live with other people to get SIL?

No. SIL can be provided in a shared home or in your own place. It depends on your needs and your plan.

  • Can I choose my support workers?

Yes, as much as we can make it work. We introduce you first, and if someone is not the right fit, tell us and we change it.
